Nation’s Debate
By Keith Candice Cruz
The crises faced by the people amid the pandemic have paved the way for the public to have a collective uproar with regards to the National Government’s lack of preparedness and abuse of powers. Countless opinions have circulated in online platforms; where different perspectives were derived on, resulting in two major conflicts between Duterte supporters and those who are against him.

Many Filipinos have been conversing as to how cruel and deceitful President Rodrigo Duterte is; perceived as an ineffective leader who does not communicate properly to the masses. This actually led to a certain act of public discernment.

Meddling about social issues might affect how you perceive things in life, especially in this kind of situation faced by the masses. However, arguing ignorantly is ineffective. In this society, the nation believes that we all have our rights on what we want to say but learn how to respect each other’s opinions because that’s how it should be.

Have you ever noticed why arguments are being prolonged? It is because of pride—we always say what we want to say but we don’t want to listen. We don’t want to accept other’s opinions when they are being against us, yet we seek for unity? Remember, there is no right or wrong opinion, but there is a limit.

Not everything you fight for should be on your account claiming that you care, and if the real reason behind all of your concerns posted online was to prove that you are an educated person and to be acknowledged as an intuitive citizen, to break it to you, you’re not. You are just posting out of fame not out of care, patriotism, or awareness. Don’t prove that you are great and all-knowing because that doesn’t make you look educated.

We all have different experiences and life struggles that help us to decide our stand against a certain issue. Taking into consideration all the facts and credible sources before we come up with a statement is a healthy practice. Let us weigh things beforehand and put ourselves on their situation so that we may convey a sensible and informative message to our fellow countrymen.

In this global crisis, we must not be arguing whether we’re right or wrong if you cannot withstand the rigors of our National Government’s actions and protocols. They deserve much more of your criticisms. We should all be accountable for our actions as it will have a great impact on who we are today. Stay vigilant.
